Happy Minds is Transitioning

After much consideration, Happy Minds closed as a group practice on Saturday 28 September.

We have transitioned to a solo practice model at a new location.

FAQs about how this transition will impact you

We understand this is an unexpected announcement and wish to support our clients through the transition process. This includes regular email updates, individual discussions with your psychologist, and detailed updates on this FAQ page.

What is happening at Happy Minds?

  • The Directors of Happy Minds will be reducing the business from a group of psychologists working together to a solo practice with only Sacha and Reyelle working together. They will be relocating to a new premises at 23 Glen Affric Street in The Gap starting from October.

  • The team of psychologists – Yan, Selina, Sarah, Penny, and Natalie – are making plans for how they will transition their private practice. They are working to have more detailed information about the continuation of services for their clients soon. More information about each psychologist’s next steps has been added to our team information page.

Why is Happy Minds changing?

  • Happy Minds has been servicing the Brisbane community for over 11 years. Our Directors, Sacha and Reyelle, aimed to provide exceptional psychological services to people seeking positive changes in their world. Their goal was to take a step away from deficit-focused thinking and embrace a strengths-based approach that was engaging and client-centred.

  • Over 11 years, Happy Minds has created a place where our community can come to and feel respected and valued. We have built a team comprised of highly skilled professionals and provided a welcoming environment that is friendly, safe and inclusive. The approach has been to have fun and be compassionate in the process of helping people to transform their lives.

  • In helping clients transform their lives, our Directors, Sacha and Reyelle, have also been transforming. They have decided to embark on a new path professionally and will be transitioning the practice from a group model to Happy Minds consisting of Sacha and Reyelle working together in a solo practice at a new location. The team will not be continuing on with the Happy Minds group practice after Saturday 28 September.

  • It has been a journey of immense learning and growth, with many moments of joy and connectedness with our clients. Happy Minds would not be the incredible service it is without the support and engagement of our team, the belief and trust in us from our clients, and the respect and assistance of our referring colleagues. Sacha and Reyelle are grateful to everyone that has been involved with Happy Minds over the years.

  • We understand this is an unexpected announcement and wish to support our clients through the transition process. This includes regular email updates, individual discussions with your psychologist, and detailed updates on this FAQ page.

When does this change happen?

  • The last sessions at Frasers Rd were held on Saturday 28 September. Sacha and Reyelle's clients will start at the new location from Monday 30 September.

  • For clients of Yan, Sarah, Penny, and Selina, they will be providing detailed information to clients about next sessions.

Will I continue to see my psychologist after 28 September?

  • Our top priority is to maintain a continuity of care wherever possible.

  • Your psychologist is working to have more detailed information about the continuation of services for their clients soon. More information about each psychologist’s next steps will be communicated to you via email.

  • Some clients may choose to take a break from psychology and are welcome to reconnect with their psychologist in the future. The information about how to contact your psychologist will be available on the Happy Minds website and our administration email address (info@happyminds.com.au) will remain active for any communication needed after 28 September.

What will happen to my Medicare Better Access plan (e.g. Mental Health Treatment Plan, Eating Disorder Management Plan, etc.)?

  • You will be able to claim your unused sessions on your plan with your current psychologist at their new location or a different provider if you are no longer continuing to access support from your Happy Minds psychologist.

  • Your referring medical professional (e.g. your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician) will be advised that Happy Minds is transitioning and there will be some changes to your care.

What will happen to my NDIS arrangements?

  • You and your psychologist will need to complete a new Service Agreement Plan if you continue to see them at a new location.

What will happen to my information and records?

  • As part of providing a psychological service to you, your psychologist needs to collect and record personal information that is relevant to your current situation. Collection of personal information is a necessary part of psychological assessment and therapy.

  • Information is gathered as part of the assessment, diagnosis and intervention with a client, and is only seen by the psychologist. The information is retained in order to document what happens during sessions, and enables the psychologist to provide a relevant and informed service. The psychology services provided by your psychologist are bound by the legal requirements of the National Privacy Principles from the Privacy Act (1988) and the Psychology Board of Australia’s Code of Ethics (2007).

  • All documents, notes, and communications between you and your psychologist become part of your clinical records. These are the responsibility of your psychologist to retain. Psychologists are required to hold adult client files for 7 years after last service contact and to hold child client files until the child has turned 25 years old.

  • Any future communication regarding client records can be directed to your psychologist. If you are not sure how to contact your psychologist, you can email Happy Minds for further advice and assistance.

What support will be available to me after 28 September?

  • We recognise that there are different impacts this process may have on clients. We are trying to provide as much support as possible to each client during this transition.

  • All psychologists will be retaining their Happy Minds email address until 31 December, 2024. This will allow opportunities for ongoing communication whilst your psychologist develops their new service model or to help with planning referrals to other services or discharge planning.

  • Our reception support will continue on a casual basis for several weeks to support any clients with outstanding invoicing, provide ongoing communication to answer questions, etc. as needed.

  • Information regarding your psychologist’s forwarding can be found here.

Who do I contact if I have a question?

  • Our reception team are available via email or phone call to review any of these details with you further. Additionally, your psychologist can provide more specific information regarding service delivery for your specific situation either via email or during your next scheduled appointment.
